Alumni
Sobhan Shoaib
Muhammad Soban Shoaib is an undergraduate student majoring in Computer Science at the University of Alberta. He was part of the Renewable Thermal Laboratory in the summer of 2024, working on optimizing liquid-based volumetric solar thermal receivers using a genetic algorithm. Soban is also an avid sports fan and loves to play soccer outside of school.
Owen
Owen is a fourth-year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Alberta, set to graduate with distinction in May 2025.Owen has gained valuable research experience through his work in the Asphalt Pavement Lab and the Renewable Thermal Lab at the University of Alberta. In the Asphalt Pavement Lab, he contributed to testing and analyzing asphalt samples and studied the impact of axle loads on road strain using KENPAVE software. In the Renewable Thermal Lab, Owen focused on improving mathematical models for simulating temperature distributions in molten salt systems.
Undergraduate Student
Julian Baudouin
Julian Baudouin is a French engineering student specializing in energy technologies, aerospace and propulsion at Polytech Orléans. He is currently working on the development of heat exchangers under the extreme conditions found in Thermal Energy Storage systems. Julian focuses on the design and development of a new experimental setup for the RTL. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys traveling, watching movies and playing video games.
